So, I'm a week late. Sue me, it's been pretty busy around here since the announcement. Insert celebratory cake here:
Whoop whoop!
Read on for more details about the new hardware.
You may have already read yourself to death on the Rane SL 3, so I'm not going to list out the features again. All the technical information can be found here or here. I will however post this video:
What I will say on the subject is that we've all had a chance to have a jam with the SL 3 for a while. The finished product sounds awesome. How awesome? Awesome enough to make even MY humble home set up sound awesome - from my amazing/terrible vintage Technics amp all the way through to my deteriorating wooden Infinity speakers. The sound is crisp and warmer than before. Being able to put the SP06 out through the Aux channel on the SL 3 is quite cool as well, even though I don't really mind which channel it comes through (software gains FTW).
The biggest plus for me is the streamlining of the inputs - software thrus RULE! Less cords for my setup, and the box is extremely stackable and easily daisy chained. So much fun, definitely makes for easy changeover and setup. I love my SL 1 and everyone out there with SL 1s should not despair! Serato will continue supporting the SL 1 FOREVER. Some of the features might be specific to the SL 3, but we still have cool updates on the horizon for the SL 1.
So yes, congratulations Rane! If you have the chance, get down to a Guitar Centre or your local distributor and try it out for yourself. And for those of you keen to know if the SL 3 has any tie ins with the Ableton/Serato partnership, I think the answer is an obvious yes. However, while we have no new announcements regarding the partnership, I can say that it will not be LIMITED to only SL 3.
