Followers of the SeratoHQ twitter might have seen me post various messages about this rapper from New Zealand named David Dallas. If you were wondering who this guy was and wanted to know more about him, this is the blog for you. To kick it all off, peep the video for his release "Indulge Me":
For a bit of a write up about this guy including information on previous and upcoming releases, read on peeps!
I remember being really young when I first heard about David Dallas, probably about 16 or 17 - the remix of the massive Scribe tune "Not Many" came out featuring Savage and this new comer Con Psy (David Dallas). I was sitting at home in Papatoetoe when the video came on TV, and my brother said "Far, that's David Dallas - I went to school with that dude."
How choice is that? A guy from Papatoetoe making it on this flash remix, which ended up going to #2 on the charts and selling Gold in Australia. The track was massive, and Dallas' verse was the immediate stand-out, to the point where me and my friends would see who could rhyme all the words in time with the song. Ahem. Anyway, here's the video to the
Scribe remix so you can see for yourself:
Shortly after, Con-Psy released a street album called "What You Expect" as part of the duo Frontline. The street release sold out and brings back memories of the release party at 4:20 which I snuck into underage and over-boozed. Demand for an official release grew and in stepped Dirty Records, who signed Frontline and released "Borrowed Time", which spawned numerous singles, tours and even won them a NZ Music Award.
More recently, Dallas has been working on his debut solo release "Something Awesome", which is due for release on August 31st on Dirty Records. As a rapper, Dallas is one of New Zealand's finest and has consistently impressed critics since day one. I think a lot of people will agree that his topics of awkward bar conversations and university degrees are far more relevant than the "lets have sex, spend money that doesn't exist and set-up our children for failure" rap music that is everywhere these days.
Four singles have been released right here on Whitelabel.net, and Front To Back reached #1 on the downloads chart last week. So far, 'Indulge Me' and 'Big Time' are my favourites, with both Forty One and Fire & Ice pulling out some nice production. Check out all his stuff on Whitelabel here:
